“Baby I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake.
I shake it off, I shake it off”
I’m pretty sure I’ve already reached “weird girl” status in university. To be specific, “weird girl with her funky shorts”. Receiving poker-faced stares daily while speed walking from class to class has been a norm in “the daily life of Chew” ever since those inelegant middle school days. Those awkward pre-teen years were times when I decided that dressing like a walking crayon was totally fabulous, which meant that I was pretty much a stupendous display of #lastestfashions101.
Good thing university doesn’t offer such course because times have not improved my fashion sense and I would actually fail that course if I were to take it. Let’s take a cringeworthy stroll down memory lane… In middle school, my outfits included animal shirts with stretchy sweat pants that exactly matched the colour of the shirt, one shade different from the shirt, or completely clashed with the shirt. Hence, I had around 8 animal shirts and 8 pairs of colourful sweat pants of different colours. I either matched to the point where I looked like a crayon or clashed to the point where I looked like a two-sided crayon; either way, I was a #crayon and a #majorfashionista
#doublethreat
Unfortunately, my fashion sense has not evolved positively since then. If you find me walking around on campus in 2014, you would most likely see me in one of my many pairs of colourful run shorts: tie-dye, plaid, neon coral, two-toned neon… run shorts make up the majority of my closet. The only days you wouldn’t find me in shorts are the days of my chemistry labs, which simply make chemistry worse than it already is. Working in an overheated state (heh get it?) leads to a dysfunctional Rachel. So on those days I definitely
“Got nothing in my brain”
Sometimes, I wonder whether people are actually concerned about my well-being or whether they think I’m majorly weather-confused, but the conversations I exchange with people daily involves somewhere along the lines of: “Aren’t you cold?” “Nope” or “Why are you in shorts in this rain?” “I’m not cold, don’t worry” or “I always see you in shorts. Aren’t you freezing?” “To be honest, no. I have no nerves in my legs” or “ahahah you and your shorts” “Thanks. I’m glad I amuse you with my clothing choice!!”.
Run shorts are the ideal clothing choice because: you can efficiently chase after busses, go for a quick run as a study break, run to your classes like a maniac, aaaaand you’re waterproof (raincouver-proof yay!).
So I guess I should keep
“Dancing on my own”,
wearing my colourful shorts in the dead of winter, wearing my “Kale” hoodie, drinking green things out of a jar in class, getting a green moustache from the drink, and being the only one running around like a 10 year old with a bright mint backpack on university campus.
And so we should all honour and celebrate our individualism and wonderful uniqueness with a Cake Batter and Cookie Dough Funfetti Milkshake. It is one heck of a sweet recipe because I shamelessly confess

Ha… this make me laugh. I’ll admit, I was initially drawn in by the sprinkles (because who doesn’t love sprinkles???) but your story had me chuckling in Starbucks. March to your own drum… it really doesn’t matter what the world thinks if you’re happy 🙂
