Toast is the next big food trend, and one we totally approve of! Cupcakes, cronuts, and cake pops were all rather mehhh for us. Toast is genius because everyone can make it, it works for any time of day, fits any dietary need, the possibilities are endless, it’s cheap and can be assembled in minutes. In other words, perfect college student food.
Today we have 4 power-boosting “stuff on toast” to share with you all. For the days where you accidentally slept in and need breakfast ASAP or the hangry hours when you want food NOW (pretty much every lunch and every dinner in our cases). Each toast includes whole grains, fat, and protein to keep your tummy full, and fruit and veg for fiber and vitamins. It’s the whole meal deal on one slice of bread! We give a thumbs up for ‘fast food’ like this.
Start with a slice of your favourite bread (we used our local Cob’s country grain loaf) and pick a savoury and/or sweet combo from the mix; we’re sure one of these toasts will hit the spot! From here on, we’ll let the gifs do the teaching.
Spicy Avo ‘n Egger
Creamy avocado is best enjoyed with plenty of black pepper, srircha, and a runny yolk for lots of #yolkporn. Can’t possibly go wrong with this combo!
Hummus in Japan
We were both pleasantly surprised by how much we liked this toast. The garlicky hummus and refreshing cucumber is a great pairing. Nori adds a fun touch.
The Elegant One
Contrasting textures makes food so much more fun. This toast has got it all with creamy almond butter, juicy pear, and crunchy coconut. Such class. Much fancy. Very texture.

To toast coconut, spread unsweetened shredded coconut on a cookie sheet and bake at 350⁰F for 3 to 5 minutes; keep a close eye on it because once it starts browning, it browns fast!
The Classic Sweetheart
Whether you are Team Creamy or Team Crunchy, peanut butter and banana will always be there for you. Douse on a mound of cinnamon for perfection; we held back just for the photos.
